HG Facts

Hyperemesis Gravidarum rarely ends at 12 weeks of pregnancy. It typically improves in the middle of pregnancy, but symptoms often last until birth.

Become 'HG-friendly'

For many women suffering with Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy (NVP) and Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), surviving the relentless and debilitating condition is only half the battle. Sadly, for too many women the other half of the battle is the fight for sympathetic and professional care from the healthcare professionals they turn to for help. Comments such as 'You just have to pull yourself together, it's normal to be sick in pregnancy' simply isn't good enough for women being sick up to 30 times a day.

As part of our work at Pregnancy Sickness Support we are trying to raise the level of education amongst healthcare professionals and to standardise care throughout the country. We understand that doctors and midwives can not possibly know everything about every condition out there but NVP and HG are actually not as uncommon as many doctors think and there is never any excuse for not taking the time to find out about the current best practice and evidenced based treatment for patients.

We are trying to build up a national network of 'HG-friendly' practitioners so that when women, their carers and the healthcare professionals involved in their care can get advice on which consultants to request or contact for advice and so on.

If you would like to register as 'HG-Friendly' please complete the form, telling us about your approach to care of the patient with HG.

If you are looking for a GP, consultant or midwife in your area who is considered 'HG-Friendly' then either contact via email or our main help line or contact your local area supporter for advice.
