Below is a list of all possible vacancies available with role descriptions and an application form. Upon completing the form our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch to conduct an informal telephone interview to give you more information and to consider your suitability for the position. 

Positions are limited and not all applicants will be successful, however, volunteers with an interest and skills in a particular area will be noted and prioritised as more roles become available and the charity expands.

Peer Supporter

We are looking for people who have experience of HG or severe NVP to support those who are currently affected by these challenging conditions. From your personal experience you will understand first-hand the kind of support that those currently suffering will need. You will be able to offer a listening, non-judgemental ear whilst also helping them to advocate for themselves when needed. Most peer support takes place over WhatsApp and consists of providing both emotional and practical support for as long as it suits the person benefiting from the service. 

Peer Support Mentor 

Experienced peer supporters have the opportunity to progress into a mentor role for new volunteers. This role consists of training new volunteers going into the Peer Supporter position. This is a role that requires experience as a PSS Volunteer before applying.

Regional Volunteer Lead

We are looking for Volunteers who will effectively lead a region of Volunteers. This role will include working closely with members of PSS-HQ staff which will vary from our Volunteer Coordinator to our Fundraiser through to our Project Coordinator. You will help to coordinate areas of interest within your region whilst also searching for new opportunities for PSS. This is a role that requires experience as a PSS Volunteer before applying.

Social Media Volunteer

If you have a natural eye for social media content and can see yourself putting together thoughtful posts, replying to comments in a supportive manner, and responding to message queries, then becoming a Social Media Volunteer could be for you. You will work closely with our Campaigns Manager creating themes and content and developing a social media schedule. 

Partner/Carer Group Supporter

We are looking for people who have experience supporting someone who has had HG. As someone who has witnessed the condition from this perspective you will be able to help other partners/carers of those who are currently suffering with HG. You will know how difficult it is to see a loved one going through such a debilitating and isolating condition and in a group chat you can offer empathetic emotional support and care.

Webchat Volunteer

Working directly with our support team you will be on the frontline of our webchat helpline receiving live chats from those seeking information and support for their pregnancy sickness symptoms. Often those using this service are looking at our website as their first port of call and have a lot of questions regarding medications, safety, coping strategies, eating advice and how they can access treatment. You will be fully trainied to give the correct information in line with current guidelines and up to date research.

Community Champion

We are looking for Volunteers to help ensure that the Community Space is a safe and welcoming platform for every member, by responding to posts, answering questions and signposting sufferers to other services offered by PSS. Using your own lived experience along with PSS training, you will offer empathetic and non judgemental responses so that nobody feels alone. As the Community Space is open 24/7, this role is completely flexible so it can work around any existing commitments.

Awareness Raising

Raising awareness of hyperemesis gravidarum and the charity can be done by simply sharing our social media content, commenting on posts directing them to our services, or delivering leaflets to your local GP surgeries and hospital. If you have other ideas on awareness raising please bring them to the attention of our volunteer coordinator by completing the vacancy enquiry form below. 

Presentation/Workshop Delivery

For those of you who are passionate about spreading awareness of HG and can do so by public speaking we welcome you to volunteer to deliver presentations/workshops; these can be at local trusts, medical centres or online.  A powerful message can be delivered by someone with personal experience of HG or by anyone who has witnessed the devastating effects HG has on a person. We also welcome healthcare professionals in this volunteer role to help inform your colleagues. 

Fundraiser

As a small charity that receives no government funding we rely heavily on the fundraising of our community to be able to provide our vital services. There are many ways to get involved with fundraising, from taking part in Ultra Challenges, hosting a bake sale, or coming up with your own 40-day challenge for our popular annual campaign. Fundraiser Faye would love to hear from you if you would like to join an event or have your own fundraising idea.

Fundraising Support Volunteer

PSS receives no government funding and as HG is such a misunderstood condition it can be challenging to secure the funds to complete our important work. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping us to grow our fundraising to ensure that we can continue to support people whose lives have been affected by HG. No previous fundraising experience is required. This volunteer role would suit creative thinkers, problem solvers and those with marketing , copywriting and PR experience.

Post HG Group Moderator

We are looking for Volunteers to work alongside a member of our support team to help moderate our post HG Facebook group. Having first hand experience is essential so that you have the understanding of what kind of posts would be deemed appropriate and acceptable.

 

Counsellor

Are you a qualified counsellor looking to offer therapeutic support to our community of NVP/HG sufferers? If so, this may be the role for you.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and empowering volunteer counsellor, who will provide counselling sessions via online and telephone means, using a tailored inhouse database. You will be offering short term counselling sessions to validate and empower sufferers, to process and begin to heal from the trauma of hyperemesis on their postpartum journey. You will also be supporting sufferers who are currently pregnant.
