From PSS
Well the Big news is the Launch of this new website! Some sections of it are still under development but most of it should now be working. We hope you enjoy it and can find what you need. Please do give us feedback on the content and structure so we can improve as required.
Other news from Pregnancy Sickness Support is the introduction of three new Trustees. Caitlin Dean, Catherine Sykes and Jessica Male have joined the Team and are each working on new projects to move things forward at PSS.
Along with the new Logo and Website we are working on updating the leaflets and we will be able to send some out to volunteers to distribute to Maternity Units and GP surgeries in the New Year.
Our Supports Network is up and running but we still need lots more volunteers. If you would like to get involved with the Charity please see our page about getting involved.
Other News
A new hyperemesis clinic has recently opened at Birmingham Women's Hospital Birmingham HG clinic.
This is run by the Early Pregnancy Unit at the Birmingham Women's Hospital (BWH) under consultant Tracey Johnston.
You must be referred by your GP and you must have a high ketone in urine count to be referred. You can check your own ketone levels at home using ketosticks (available from most pharmacies), but your GP must have checked them too. It can be difficult to give a urine sample on demand when you are badly dehydrated, so it may be a good idea to save some of your urine to take with you if you are going to see the GP.
Initial assessment at the BWH is in the Early Pregnancy Unit and, then you will transfer to the hyperemesis unit for treatment. IV fluids will be given and you will be able to go home the same day.
Oxford City and South Oxfordshire have set up a Hospital at Home (H@H) service which runs from 8am-10pm. At a recent talk, a husband of a HG sufferer asked if they would support HG patients. The reply was 'in certain circumstances'. It is worth trying to contact them if you live in the Oxford area - Team mobile - 07785345540.
